Here is a cake I did for my best friend's son who was celebrating his second birthday and loves "Spuh-bah." The cake is chocolate with American buttercream frosting. The "sand" on top is just superfine brown sugar (like the kind used for creme brulee). I was initially going to write Happy Birthday in the sand and fill it in with icing, but the icing kept sticking to the sugar and rolling off, so that got scrapped real quick. This cake was very easy to make, although I would have loved to go all out on it. My day will come!
